The following will help you create a great and entertaining Cocktail Party.

Preperation for your cocktail party

Following are some suggestions, hints & recommendations for organising your cocktail bar for your party. It Could be you are organised already but in case there are little things you may have missed or forgotten.

The Cocktails

Firstly you need to decide if you’re having a cocktail list. Having about 5 to 10 different cocktails makes it easier for both the bartender and organiser. Knowing what is going to be served will help you decide what spirits and liquors you will need to get and not get. It helps the bartender as there are only so many recipes to remember on the night. Having the list available to the guests also makes it easier for them to decide what to have. (I can provide the lists) I have lists of some basic and popular cocktails which I can forward to you upon confirmation of booking or let me know what cocktails you would like or what alcohol you have and I can put some together for you. Good idea to keep it simple too.

The Bar

The bar is the next important thing. Is there an actual bar? If not a couple of long tables will do the trick. I do have a portable bar I can bring that doesn’t take up much room. One problem I have encounted with some bars is there is no place to wash up the shakers and other tools. If there is no sink the solution is having a few buckets and accsess to hot water to quickly rinse the shakers after use. Glassware is another thing to decide on. Unfortunately I can not supply glasses. One party I have done gave 1 glass to their guests and it was the guest’s responsibility to keep the glass as well as rinsing it out before getting another drink. Otherwise disposable martini glasses are resonably cheap from party suppliers.

The Garnishes

Deciding on if you’re having garnishes on all of the cocktails. If so it would be great if these could be prepared before the bar opens. This can be time consuming so once again keep it simple. Basic fruits like Lemon, Orange, Pineapple & Lime. You can go for some exotic fruit too like Strawberries and Cherries but are not necessary. Garnishes also depend on what cocktails you are having and if you are using plastic disposable cups it is not recommended. Also there are what we call “Junk” which are umbrellas, swizzle sticks and so on. Here is a link on how to cut garnishes http://cocktails.about.com/od/embellishments/ss/grnsh_lime.htm . This site can be helpful, search for cocktail parties or look up some of their recipes.
